Meet The Speakers

Professor Abu-Sittah is a multi-award-winning Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, with a worldwide reputation as one of the world’s leading specialists in Craniofacial surgery (facial deformities), aesthetic surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery and trauma related injuries.

Professor Abu-Sittah is a passionate and active humanitarian. A British Palestinian, he has worked as a war surgeon in numerous conflict zones including Syria, Yemen, Iraq, South Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. He is Clinical Lead for the Operational Trauma Initiative at the World Health Organization’s EMRO Office and serves on the board of directors of INARA, a charity dedicated to providing reconstructive surgery to war injured children in the Middle East, and Board of Trustees of the UK based Medical Aid for Palestinians.

Dr. Youssef Salam - MSME, CP, P&O


Dr. Salam is a board member of International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics, and the past chair of the Continuous Professional Development at ISPO. He is a certified P&O consultant serving in North Africa, Eastern Europe, Lebanon and the Middle East, on a vast variety of advanced P&O technologies.

Youssef is an instructor and trainer for several international organizations and educational institutions. He has several publications in Biomedical Engineering, and Prosthetics and Orthotics.

His current interest focuses on simple P&O solutions applicable in developing countries.

Dr. Hiba Al Shibibi - PMR Specialist


After completing her general medicine training in Paris, Dr. Hiba specialized in Switzerland and obtained her postgraduate diploma medical specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) with the European Board of PMR.

Her experience includes neurorehabilitation, spasticity management, osteoarticular traumatic conditions including amputations, acute rehab etc. Since the war on Gaza, she has dedicated her time on studying rehabilitation solutions, particularly for prosthetics, including directing her participation in capacity building on topics of interest such as “multi-amputation management after blast injuries” (Ukraine).
